This interesting autobiography also provides insights into her two earlier novels, Crossing in the Rain and Standing Against the Wind. The first was the story of her father who led a secret life from his family. Technology today would not make it possible to have multiple families, but in her father’s day, he could travel without any details of his other families being discovered.

Description

Tallahassee, Florida resident Martha Perritti pens the third in a trilogy of autobiographical family sketches woven in the pages of her historical novels.

In From This Fertile Valley, we meet Perritti the author from early childhood through her early life with husband Frank serving in the Navy, to her transformation into an author and to the couple retiring in north Florida. Perritti also weaves the birth of her books into her life story. Her candid revelations help the reader see behind the development of her published works. At the same time, she allows the reader to get to know her personally.

As is her style in previous books, Perritti connects her story with world and national events, placing the reader fully in the time of her unfolding life story.

Often, during speaking engagements, audience members would ask her about her own life. The seed was planted and Perritti decided to answer many of the questions she would field from interested readers.

Standing Against the Wind was a revelation for the author. As she foraged among family archives, she soon found the dark secret that family members kept from future generations—their Cherokee heritage. This book is about her three great grandmothers who were full blooded Cherokee.

Once she finished much of her studies and discoveries of her family background, Perritti’s latest novel ties the two earlier ones together with her own story.

Much like the attributes of her Cherokee ancestors, Martha Perritti is a self-taught writer and an independent scholar.
