Description

The Ribbon of Time tells the story of Little Bear and Polly and the bond of love that kept them united during their separate journeys. At the age of seventeen Little Bear took the red ribbon which had belonged to his girlfriend, cut it in half and left one piece tied to the latch of her cabin door and put the other half in his pocket. Without being able to say goodbye, he left his Cherokee homeland in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and headed west, crossed the Mississippi River and rode west to the Indian Territory of Oklahoma. The Trail of Tears divided the Cherokee forever, forcing them from their home lands in North Carolina to the arid west in Oklahoma. Families were separated and most would never see their loved ones ever again.

The history of the Cherokee people and the life and adventures of Little Bear are wrapped together with fact and fiction in a story of enduring love tied together by The Ribbon of Time.

While Ribbon of Time chronicles the life of Little Bear, Polly’s story had been already told in Martha Lou Perritti’s classic book, Standing Against the Wind.
